This spring (2018) FOZP has been busy removing blackberries and low lying brush from the NW side of the Strawberry Field meadow. The aim is to create a defensible space between the meadow and the woodland, and thus reduce the risk of any fire on the dry grass this summer spreading to the woodland, where is would be devastating. The lower branches of adjacent trees will be limbed-up, and a new trail created under the raised canopy. This way, a wide section of the meadow can be reclaimed. The project is being supervised by our head steward, Jesse Dobson, in consultation with Ed Alverson (Natural Areas Coordinator for LCPD), and we hope to make significant progress before the Country Fair Campers arrive in July.
