Scotch broomScotch Broom is a highly invasive species, and young plants need to be uprooted every spring before they have a chance to set seed. Last spring (April 2017), Americorps did a fantastic job of removing all the broom from the ‘dog leg’ area of the park, under the direction of Ed Alverson (Natural Areas Coordinator for LCPD). As the uprooted plants are rich in nitrogen, they can be left to rot into the surrounding ground. We hope to enlist volunteers again this year to continue to fight off this plague.
