The Park is open!
Welcome back to Zumwalt Park !
The County budget has been submitted & Lane County Parks Dept.
lost approximately $223,000 of their operating funds.
Not as bad as it could have been, not as good as we wished for.
But, we were heard and the good news is that the Parks are open, and will remain open with community support.
‘Friends of Zumwalt Park’ has signed an agreement with Lane County Parks Dept. to adopt Zumwalt Park. We will now be responsible for mowing and trash removal. Garbage cans are
back in the Park. A portable toilet has been placed at the
Jeans Rd. entrance, and will be serviced regularly. An arborist
from the Lane Co. Parks Dept. will keep an eye on the trees.
During the middle of June the tall grass was turned into hay –
11 tons to be exact ! Then on June 30, 2007 a group of volunteers gathered at the Park for an incredible work party.
We finished mowing around trees, picnic tables, horseshoe pit,
curbs and down either side of the roadway. Blackberry vines were
trimmed, downed limbs were picked up, and a mountain of brush
was removed. Many thanks to the ‘friends of Zumwalt Park’ for
all of your tremendous effort. The Park looks ‘absolutely marvelous’, as one recent visitor noted.
We’ll post upcoming work parties as we continue to clean up the Park throughout the year.
Thanks, and come visit. |
